What’s New In LearnIT2teach: Project Update at 1 p.m. today!

Today, at TESL Ontario, our team will update the settlement community about the progress that we have made over the past year.   Jim Edgar, Rob McBride and Matthias Sturm discuss additions to the CIC-funded LearnIT2teach Project, which commenced in January 2010. New additions include a reference manual for LINC administrators, online speaking activities, LINC 2 e-resources, learner readiness materials, updates to the portal and social media, PTCT accreditation, migration to Tutela, and LINC 5-7 development work.  (see details)

Today we are offering a to give instructors a head start to editing using the Moodle learning Management System or LMS.

This session introduces course authoring in Moodle, a popular learning management system. Participants will be introduced to Moodle, course settings, adding course content, including learning objects from Tutela.ca, and given information about free course hosting options. This workshop is open to all, especially anyone interested in the CIC-funded LearnIT2teach Stage 3.

Authoring Online Activities with Hot Potatoes Workshop

Hot Potatoes allows instructors, teachers and developers to create digital quizzes.  The Hot Potatoes suite includes six applications, enabling educators to create interactive multiple-choice, short-answer, jumbled-sentence, crossword, matching/ordering and gap-fill exercises for the World Wide Web. Since Hot Potatoes is freeware, it can be used for any purpose or project. Our team is running a 100 minute hands-on workshop at TESL Ontario.Hot Potatoes is a staple of our Stage 4 training in which participants create SCORM learning objects using multimedia.

If you cannot make the session, Hot Potatoes can be freely downloaded from the Hot Pot website.

A great way to start learning “blended instruction” Back2Back Stages 1 & 2 sessions

On Friday, November the 10th at TESL Ontario, our team is offering the Stage One hands on and Stage Two introduction sessions consecutively at 9:00 a.m and 1:00 p.m. respectively. This is an efficient way for Ontario LINC instructors to get a jump start on their understanding and practical skills using technology in a blended fashion with their teaching.

Congratulations to TESL Ontario Silver Pin Award winners!

Our team at LearnIt2teach wishes to congratulate the recipients of the TESL Ontario Silver Pin Award.  This award celebrates the excellence, commitment, dedication and compassion of individuals involved with the field of English language training. The winners, John Sivell of  Brock University and Sheila McMullen of Citizenship and Immigration Canada (Retired) will be honoured at the TESL Ontario conference November 8 -10 in Toronto.

Make Speaking Activities with NanoGong at TESL Ontario

At TESL Ontario, Jim Edgar and Susan Susan Middlesworth will be leading a session dedicated to generating computer blended speaking activities for LINC classes.  As synchronous and asynchronous speaking practice has now been integrated into the CIC-funded LINC 2-4 courseware. This hands-on training is for instructors who would like to start using these activities. All of the activities are available on Tutela.ca. Speaking opportunities in the LINC 5-7 courseware will be added later this year.  See session details.
