A message for LINC service providers

Dear Ontario settlement language training service provider,

In response to the federal (CIC) call for proposals for the coming years, the team at LearnIT2teach strongly encourages every Ontario service provider organization to request resources to support information technology integration in LINC, OSLT or ELT programs.

Please seriously consider requesting funding for:

  • paid release time for teachers and administrators taking professional development (such as the free PD offered by our team)
  • hardware (you might want to consider new less expensive laptops), Internet connections, technical support, and whether or not you need commercial software for your language labs or classrooms

We can offer assistance in preparing your proposal. Please feel free to contact us at support@learnit2teach.ca for more information.

Voice recording is now in Stage 3 training

Stage 3 training has been updated enabling participants to easily create speaking activities using a new voice recording module at edlinc.ca.  This tool allows teachers to set up student speaking activities for practice and assessment purposes.

NanoGong is now available for LearnIT2teach.ca courses!

What is NanoGong?
NanoGong is an applet that a course participant can use to record, playback and save their voice. When the recording is played back the user can speed up or slow down the sound without changing it.
How can I try it?
1. NanoGong is available in all discussion forums at LearnIt2teach.ca/moodle. It allows you add a voice message to your forum posting. This help file explains how it to use in a discussion forum.
2. You can also try sample LINC 4 speaking activities in the first topic of the Stage One course.
Contact your mentor for more information.

Part 3 of a three part interview with Dr. Hubbard

Listen to Dr. Hubbard talk about the potential dangerous path if you become known as the techie teacher, and how he feels they should be rewarded for that path. He also discusses what teacher’s need to know ‘ in order to fix issues themselves.

He talks about the evolution of CALL and Mobile technology and the exciting new technologies. But he also has some cautions about trendy technology.

Teachers facing challenging environments and perhaps suspicious of learning technology should try to ‘role play’ the language learner. Dr. Hubbard has suggestions for teachers to help them see the learners point of view  leading teachers to understand what learners enjoy and what might frustrate them.     PodCast link

Part 2 of a three part interview with Dr. Hubbard

Technology skills for teachers are becoming more and more in demand. Building your tech skills enhances your marketability. Teachers learn best from each other. Teachers collaborating to learn new skills is a real plus. Hiring a teacher with tech skills can improve a program as she can be a model for others. A program might start the process of change and innovation with a specific project to meet a need because teachers begin to see the value of innovation when they put it work. A group of teachers collaborating to do something new lightens the individual load and makes it more interesting for everyone. Length, less than five minutes. Listen to the podcast here.
